Here we are!

Goethe-Institut e.V. promotes knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. We convey a comprehensive image of Germany by providing information about cultural, social and political life in our nation. Our cultural and educational programs encourage intercultural dialogue and enable cultural involvement. They strengthen the development of structures in civil society and foster worldwide mobility.

With the project “Here we are!” Goethe-Institut Czech Republic aims to focus for the first time of a European minority, living rather at the edge of our societies. In July 2015, we will invite 36 young people from six European countries with Roma-background as well as with non-Roma-background in the age between 14 and 18 years to come together in Dresden/Germany to spend a week of cultural learning, creativity, theater-playing, music production, media training and language sharing.
As young Europeans with diverse cultural and linguistic background the group will develop various forms of cultural expression of their selves, their otherness and their perspectives of being young, being Roma or non-Roma and being European.

The project “Here we are!” is based on the assumption that young Europeans of different background are enthusiastic and creative and that they possess a variety of natural given talents, which are there to be fostered and developed. “Here we are!” is a general contributing to promote cultural education of young Europeans. “Here we are!” will show the public that young Europeans of Roma-background are an important part of our multicultural and multilingual European societies, living right among us.

In cooperation with the foundation Brücke/Most-Stiftung.
The project is co-funded by the European Union programme ERASMUS+.
